Official Rules and Guidelines
Common Player/Character Rules: Staff disrespect will NOT be tolerated. If you wish to report a Staff Member, please review the point of contact HERE.
Players must follow Twitch.tv Terms of Service (TOS) at all times, even if they are streaming on any other platform. Click HERE to view them.
Any and all /me’s and /do’s must have proper capitalization, punctuation, etc. and must not break TOS. You can review our guide HERE.
Being disrespectful/toxic, or breeding toxicity in/on any platform (this includes Twitch, Reddit, Discord, etc.) can have you removed from the community at any point in time, especially on any of GTARP’s Official Discords, the Forums, etc. This is called “Out of Character (OOC) Toxicity”.
It is recommended to have clipping software while roleplaying on the server.
1. Character Creation
Character names must have a REALISTIC First and Last name with proper capitalization, punctuation, etc. and must not break TOS.
Character names cannot be names of celebrities or famous people.
Character names must not match your out of character name or alias (including any usernames/screen names on any platforms such as Twitch, Reddit, Discord, etc.
2. Harassment
You're not allowed to leak any information belonging to another person or make threats.
You're not allowed to intimidate players from playing on the server or continuously harass them in-game for out of character reasons.
Discrimination of any kind is not allowed. You’re required to respect each player AND their character’s race, gender, sexuality, etc. no matter what they sound like and/or how they sound. If you intend to roleplay on a Ped that is the opposite gender of your own, you are expected to fully build that character’s storyline. Doing that with the sole intention of trying to attract someone that you are interested in Out of Character is predatory and isn’t allowed within the server.
3. Interactions
Sexual, torture or extremely gross roleplay is allowed only if all parties involved (participants and witnesses) have agreed to it in an out-of-character (OOC) chat prior to the roleplay being performed and not in a public area. If at any time you feel uncomfortable with the roleplay you can void it and leave the scene.
Scenarios such as rape and non-consensual touching are prohibited.
Players breaking the rules doesn't mean the roleplay stops, if you have an issue with the player submit a report in-game and/or on the forums with any evidence available.
Players trying to meet someone via stream sniping isn't allowed. If you're found to be stream sniping, you will be permanently banned and un-whitelisted from the server.
Players may take pictures with their phone using the emote. They may record using a camera. The camera may pick up audio if the player is in range to hear the audio (not through walls/glass etc).
All players must remain in character unless an Administrator says otherwise. Players may not void roleplay or any scenario unless an Administrator says otherwise. You must follow all Administrator instructions.
4. Real World Trading
You're not allowed to trade any in-game items for out of game currency.
In-Game Rules
1. Common Courtesy
All players should treat each other with respect. You're not allowed to break the rules because someone else did. You shouldn't disrupt, stall or void roleplay unless an Administrator tells you to. Having subpar roleplay or doing any Fail RP is included. Examples:
Quitting the game during a scene to avoid roleplay (also known as Combat Logging)
Repeatedly refusing to roleplay by not responding at any capacity, ignoring any /me’s and /do’s, etc.
Inserting yourself into an active roleplay scene that has nothing to do with you (walking into a crime scene, interrupting EMS, and so on).
Purposefully being disrespectful, robbing another player, etc. due to being rejected at any capacity. If you get denied/ignored after “shooting your shot”, just keep it moving. No means no.
If you come across a bug or exploit on any of our services, you're required to report it. Exploiting it and using it will result in a permanent ban and it's your obligation to report rule-breakers as well.
2. Metagaming
Metagaming is defined as using out of character information in character. Inciting someone else to metagame is against this rule. Examples:
John Doe reads something from out of character chat and roleplays knowing that in-character.
Jane Smith reads something from twitch chat and roleplays knowing that in-character.
Using information that one of your characters would know on a character that SHOULDN’T know to gain an advantage in the roleplay.
Taking out of character situations/problems that you have with another player and bringing them in character.
Corner peaking, moving the camera and reacting to an action your character physically cannot see, etc. to see things that you couldn’t see realistically.
Using out of game communications like Discord, Skype, etc. to communicate in character while in-game is forbidden.
3. Powergaming
Powergaming can be defined as performing acts that are not human like; forcing roleplay on others without giving them a fair chance; making up things which did not happen so that you can benefit; roleplaying things which are not possible script-wise so that you can gain an unfair advantage. Examples;
Actively organizing people or giving orders while you're down. You should only be roleplaying your injuries or with the Police Department /Fire Department when downed.
Sprinting and fighting as soon as you leave the hospital or revived by medics.
Not roleplaying injuries in general, especially when expected (such as car crashes).
Roleplaying an item is on you when you don't have it script wise.
Entering a vehicle and stealing all items without roleplay. (Not using any /me’s or /do’s).
Keybinds are strictly forbidden (This pertains to /me's and /do's).
Utilizing /v park, /v buy and /v list to hide/switch out any vehicle involved with any crimes, or as a means to escape a situation in general.
Lying in a /do regardless of the reasoning behind it.
Using drugs for its out of character benefit (health, armor, etc.) and not roleplaying the effects it should have on your character.
Locking your bicycle without roleplaying and using a /scene stating that your bike is locked to a pole, etc.
Performing any or a combination of the following tasks with roleplaying that your character is tired, especially when injured: running, swimming, bike riding, etc.
Any usage of emotes or “emote canceling” to exploit the pullout time on weapons, fighting, etc.
Any usage of emotes/walk styles to exploit the speed of your character.
4. Deathmatching
Killing another person without a sufficient roleplay reason (deathmatching) is not allowed. Unnecessary provoking falls under this rule as well. Terrorism is strictly forbidden.
Examples:
Jane Smith spits on your shoes so you withdraw your firearm and shoot them for it.
You provoke a fist fight with two people who are unarmed and then you pull your firearm out and kill them.
Players cannot provoke a situation or another player without valid reasons behind it.
5. Robbing and Scamming
Robbing is defined as taking someone's possessions (money/items, etc.) by force or threat of force. Scamming is defined as offering a good or service and then refusing to pay or give it. Robberies and scams must be strictly done in character.
Players are unable to force other players to withdraw money from an automated teller.
Players are unable to force another player to sell them their vehicle via script commands during a robbery.
Players are unable to force other players to hand over assets that aren't present in the area.
Players may not scam vehicles or properties.
Players may scam for a maximum amount of $30,000 and nothing greater per player.
Players may not rob items from the Police Department and Fire Department.
Players can't commit a robbery while operating a luxury, high-end, or sports car.
Players are able to rob all of the cash you are carrying on your persona. Avoid walking around with twenty thousand dollars unless you don't care about losing it.
A group who splits up shouldn't be hitting a house in 4 different areas of the map to try and spread police out just so they can succeed.
Only tell a player to 'put their hands up' solely if you intend to rob them, not if you intend to kill them.
Chain robberies on your character unless perfectly roleplayed will be considered unrealistic and poor portrayal of a character. You may only do up to one robbery per hour. Group robberies count together; the rule doesn't apply to just an individual it applies to an entire group you're with. You may not kill someone during a robbery unless they bring it upon themselves. Players must show value for their life and your character's life is important.
6. Abuse of Game Physics
Grand Theft Auto Five physics and movements in-game are hardcoded and cannot be changed via scripting so the following is forbidden to avoid non-roleplay situations:
Bunny Hopping (I.e: jumping while running around to gain speed in a situation)
Spam Punching (I.e: spam clicking mouse 1 in a fight and not giving someone a chance to react).
Combat Rolling (I.e: rolling in a shootout, etc.)
Olympic Swimming (I.e: swimming without roleplay any exhaustion)
Drive By as Driver (I.e: shooting from the driver seat)
Abuse of jobs (I.e: spawning a job vehicle to evade police, etc.).
Unrealistic driving (I.e: Stunt jumps, etc.).
Clothing (I.e: using clothing for jobs like Police or Fire and you don't have the job, etc.).
7. Third Party Modifications
Third party modifications are defined as using a program, software that gives you an unfair advantage over other players. This includes the following; mods, trainers, crosshair monitor, etc.
8. Safe zones
A "No-Crime" zone is an area where player(s) may not commit any crimes. Though, if a player(s) you’re attacking flees into a safe-zone, then the roleplay is allowed to continue with the exception of an on-going scene. At any time, there should be NO player(s) waiting outside of a safe-zone to commit any type of illegal activity at all, as that is considered to be camping. Safe-zones can be justified as all government offices/property, law enforcement offices/property, Hospitals, Banks, Car Dealerships, Inside clothing stores, Spawn locations, Airports, and Impounds. Safe-Zones also include promoted businesses and/or locations that are featured via "Word-Around-Town '' in ZooYork's Discord channel, In-game Ads & Twitter posts. Any illegal activity within these areas are strictly prohibited and may result in disciplinary action(s).
The first 15 minutes after AND the last 30 minutes before a server restart makes the ENTIRE server a safe zone. Any crimes committed during these times will lead to a punishment.
Example:
Say you are to get into a heated argument that leads to a physical altercation; You are not permitted to fight inside of the clothing store. All involved parties are to exit the store to engage in a physical fight. This also stands for places of business, such as mechanic shops and whitelisted businesses.
9. Valuing Life
All players must value their characters life. NO EXCEPTIONS:
Treat your character as you would treat yourself. If someone has a gun to your head you would most likely comply and put your hands up.
If someone has a hostage during a situation, you must value the hostages life and you would want the safety of the hostage.
When driving a vehicle, you must value your characters life.
You are required to roleplay any injuries that have happened in-character depending on the severity of the injury.
You are allowed to perform a hit-and-run only if your character’s life is in danger. You must provide proper /me’s and /do’s when necessary throughout the scene for it not to be considered as vehicle deathmatching.
Examples of when you're not in direct danger:
When you're in a vehicle and the engine isn't stalled.
When you have a firearm drawn and facing the other person before they attack.
When the attacker's view is obstructed by an object or when they turn their back on you.
10. Looting
Please read this part closely as a lot of people have been doing this and have been receiving bans due to not following this rule. No looting should take place in the server, even if it is roleplayed. No matter what type of RP it is and how long it has been built.
11. One Life Rule
We ask that players value their lives while playing this server. No one is excluded from the One Life Rule. In order to kill someone we ask for all scenarios leading up to that death to be substantial and realistic.
For example, arguing with someone in the clothing store would NOT be a substantial interaction to kill someone. However, if this was your 3rd or 4th interaction with this person, it could cause the situation to escalate to extreme violence. Only in situations where your life is in extreme danger can you resort to violent interactions without build up. You also shouldn’t be quick to threaten someone’s life, especially if you don’t know who they are in the first few interactions.
To further explain, if you are robbed at gunpoint you wouldn't need the built-up violent interactions in order to have this player killed or have something done to them. This shouldn't be a common cause but under extreme and unique circumstances. In order to kill someone you need 4 violent interactions. All valid interactions leading up to a death will be a CK (Character Kill). Any injuries that follow up with the CK screen must be reported and logged in.
Violent Interactions are situations where harm was inflicted on another person. This does not include muscle spasms or petty verbal arguments.
If you die from Desync or any server glitches please have a clip provided to prove the interaction.
If you receive a bleed out timer you will be declared unconscious. During this time you can be revived by EMS, if they are available.
If you bleed out and there are no EMS available, this will be declared a CK.
If you are unconscious and revived, it will be documented by EMS as a major injury.
3 Major injuries in a 5 day period (IRL DAYS) will be declared a CK.
Upon receiving major injuries, every player is to RP the appropriate injuries and continue to value their life.
12. Miscellaneous Rules
Reporting:
If you intend to report another player or faction on the Forums, the report must be made no more than 7 days after the incident occurred. Once a report is posted, it cannot be removed or deleted. If you post a Player or Faction Report only to delete the entire thread later, that will result in a punishment.
The only players that should be responding to the report is the Reporting Party, the Reported Party, any witnesses listed and any witnesses that can PROVIDE EVIDENCE in regard to the situation. Revenge Reporting also isn't allowed, and if you are suspected of doing so will automatically result in a ban.
Failure to respond to a Forum Report is an automatic permanent ban, which can be appealed.
Hitman Roleplay:
You are only allowed to perform a kill on another player for money (Hitman RP) if the bounty is set to a minimum of $25k; as the Hitman if asked to provide clips leading up to the killing you must show them. As the individual that “called” the hit, you must have a valid reason and still follow the interactions rule listed within the One Life Rule.
If you commit a crime or kill another player for any in-character reason, you are required to remain in game for at least 30 minutes before quitting the server.
Asset transferring (to yourself) isn’t allowed whatsoever.
